The Team
Sean
Evans
enters his eleventh year
driving Modified Stock Cars with a truly impressive career developing.
He has won, lost,
crashed, and broken down in the past ten seasons. Sean has blended these
experiences and developed a fine balance of enthusiasm, control, and aggressive driving.
Sean endured the trials and tribulations, and comes to the
2005 season
strong, with his good nature still intact.
Gary Smith is the owner of the Evans Racing Team, and has been involved
in dirt track racing for as long as anyone can remember. He says, "I have grown
up building and racing cars, and nothing compares to the excitement of dirt track
racing." Gary's father built and raced circle track cars for 16 years, after
that, he moved into management. Gary's father managed the Indiana Speedway for 17
years. Gary points out that an important aspect of circle track racing is that it is an
exciting sport that kids can really get involved in. "It's great for the kids because
they get excited about their favorite drivers, and come to all the races. Most of all, it
keeps them out of negative things like drugs and alcohol that too many of our children are
getting tangled up in."
The Grunts: Thanks to team members: Kevin, Rick and
Charles. Special thanks to: Missey, Emma and Beau.
The Cars- What
is a Modified?
The modified division dirt track race car is a uniquely interesting vehicle. It is an
open wheeled, rear wheel drive custom built car with some standard American automotive parts
required. The cars are based on older American chassis- namely Chevrolet, but almost
nothing else in the automobile even vaguely resembles anything you'd find in the typical
family car. It is built primarily for speed, and since they are run on dirt, handling such
amounts of raw power requires some special handling secrets. The cars run over 60 races
each in a typical race year. Sean knows just how fun it is to drive them -
a feeling most of us will never know.
